H. Jan Clement, 59, of 5295 Maple Lane, Cuba, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at home after a long but courageous battle with cancer.
Born on, September 14, 1950, in Olean, New York, he was a son of Harold D. and Helen A. Truscott Clement. On March 27, 1971, in Franklinville, New York, he married the former Sylvia J. Graves who survives.

Mr. Clement grew up in Franklinville and was a 1968 graduate of Ten Broeck Academy. In 1970, he graduated from Olean Business Institute with a degree in accounting. In 1971, he began working for the First National Bank which later became Manufacturer's Hanover and from 1998 until April of 2007, Mr. Clement was employed by Community Bank, NA as the branch manager for its Houghton, NY location before retiring due to illness.
Jan was past president of the Olean Kiwanis Club as well as a member and past chief of the Cuba Fire Department. Mr. Clement was Chairman of the Truck Committee that was responsible for writing the specifications for Cuba 1, the fire departments newest pumper.
Mr. Clement enjoyed traveling, bowling, camping, and spending time with his family.
Surviving in addition to his mother Helen A. Clement of Cuba are one son, Derek (Vanessa) Clement of Cuba;
one daughter, Erin (Oakley) Sortore of Friendship; and his grandchildren Kristen, Nathaniel, Nicholas, and Madelyn Sortore of Friendship and Andrew and Austin Clement of Cuba.
Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba on Thursday, October 29, 2009 from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. where funeral services will be held on Friday, October 30, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. The Rev. Sonya "Sunny" Mauser, pastor of the Cuba United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Members of the Cuba Fire Department will assemble at 6:45 in the Funeral Home Thursday night for a prayer service.
Burial will be in Yorks Corners Cemetery, Town of Willing, New York.
Memorials if desired may be made to the Cuba Fire Department, Sandford Truck Restoration Fund, or to the Allegany County Cancer Services, 3453B State Route 417 East, Wellsville, New York, 14895.
