Glenn J. Cooper, born on August 27, 1931, in Andover, NY, to Glenn Rutledge Cooper and Vivian (Swain) Cooper, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025 after a lengthy stay at The Pines Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Machias, NY.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Kathryn (Bearfield) Cooper, and their children: Gregory Cooper of Vero Beach, FL; Stephen (Sheila) Cooper of North Tonawanda, NY; Kathleen Cooper of Chambersburg, PA; Rosalie Cooper of Cheyenne, WY; and Anne Cooper of Port St. Lucie, FL. Glenn was a proud grandfather to 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Judy Illerbrun. He was predeceased by his eldest son, Jeffrey Cooper, as well as seven sisters and one brother.
In 1951, Glenn enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably during the Korean War until his discharge in 1954. He was awarded the Purple Heart in recognition of his bravery and sacrifice.
After returning home, Glenn began working at Acme Electric and soon married Kathryn. The couple settled in Olean before relocating to Buffalo, where Glenn worked for the A.B. Dick Company until his retirement in 1992. Even in retirement, Glenn remained active, working part-time and dedicating himself to veterans’ causes.
A devoted community member, Glenn was a Life Member of the VFW Frontiersmen Post 7545 in the City of Tonawanda, NY. He served as Post Commander and held the position of Erie County Council Quartermaster for over two decades. He also contributed significantly to District 6 of the VFW and played a key role in founding the Sons of the VFW at Post 7545.
In 2004, Glenn and Kathryn retired to Cuba, NY, where he found joy in the outdoors, caring for his property, and supporting those around him. He had a passion for cooking, a quiet strength, and a dry sense of humor that was part of his distinctive personality. Glenn expressed his love through acts of service—whether surprising Kathryn with flowers or lending a helping hand to others.
His generosity, dedication, and unwavering love for his family and community will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba, on Thursday, December 18, 2025 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. with a Funeral Service beginning at 1 in the Funeral Home. The Rev. Jonathan Ward, will officiate.
Burial with military honors will be in Acacia Park Cemetery, North Tonawanda. A luncheon will follow burial at Frontiersmen Post 7545, 110 Elgin Street, Tonawanda, NY 14150.
