Samuel LaBarbera
WWII Veteran, Man Of Many Talents
Samuel LaBarbera, 89, of 21 Medbury Ave., Cuba passed away Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Wellsville Manor Care Center after a short illness.

Born on July 25, 1926, in Cuba New York he was a son of Samuel Josephine LaBarbiera LaBarbera. In 1970, he married the former Jean C. Nunamaker who survives.

Sam served in the United States Navy during WWII. While enlisted he stood perch on the Mast of the U.S. Navy Tank Landing Ship 28 and was responsible for signaling other boats as they approached the beaches of German-occupied Normandy, France.

After his military service he lived for awhile out west but eventually returned to New York and in particular the Cuba area.

As a man of many talents he was a self-taught musician playing the piano and organ. He was excellent artist that enjoyed painting pictures and taking photographs. Sam could fix or repair anything, which made him an all around good contractor.

He also co owned and operated LaBarbera's Carpets and Floor Coverings with his wife.

Sam was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church, the Cuba VFW Post 2721 and Cuba American Legion Post 655.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a son Donald E. Williams, Jr., and three brothers, Joe Labarbera, Pat Labarbera, and Albert Labarbera

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Douglas (Lisa) Williams of San Rafael, California, and David E. Williams of Cape Coral, FL; a daughter in law, Katie Williams of Cuba; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Stout of Olean; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba, on Tuesday, May 31, 2015 from 6-8 P.M. and on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 from 10-11:00 A.M. at which time funeral services will be held. The Rev. Sean DiMaria will officiate.

Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery, Cuba.
