Samuel H. Guild

Samuel H. Guild, 77, of 36 Champlain Ave., Cuba, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Cuba Memorial Hospitals Palliative Care Program after a lengthy illness.

Born on May 10, 1937, in Cuba, NY he was a son of Walter and Harriet Guilford Guild. On July 26, 1956 he married the former Joanne L. Rose who survives.

Sam was a graduate of Cuba Central School Class of 1955. He had been employed as purchasing agent at Acme Electric Corp. of Cuba for over forty years retiring in 2000.

A lifetime member of the Cuba Fire Department he was Chief from 1970-72, past president, and Fireman of the Year in 1980. He was a former trustee on the Cuba Village Board, the Cuba Rotary Club, and the Allegany County Fire Advisory Board where at one time he served as vice chairman.

When his children where young he was involved in their sports coaching little league and midget football. In his spare time he loved tinkering in his workshop.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Dr. Gerald (Kimberly) Guild of Allegany; his grandchildren, Meghan Guild of Tempe Arizona, Paige Missel of Lexington, Virginia, and Alec Missel of Santa Barbara California; and his borrowed grandchildren Meghan and Erin Bradley of Cuba; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a daughter Sherie Guild on Feb 18, 2014;and a brother Walter C. Guild.

Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street Cuba, on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. The Rev. John M. Woodring will officiate.

Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery, Cuba, New York.

Memorials may be made to the Cuba Fire Department.
