Born on October 12, 1931, in Eldred, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of Hester and Nellie Lee (McClure) Moses, and was later adopted by Hugh Bradley DeYoe. On September 8, 1949, in Olean, she married Lewis L. Holden, Sr., who preceded her in death on January 6, 1999.

Ruth was a graduate of Olean High School Class of 1949 and the Saint Francis School of Nursing in 1971 as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

She was a member of the Cuba Methodist Church.

Ruth worked at Cuba Memorial Hospital’s third floor Skilled Nursing Facility until her retirement in August of 1996.

She enjoyed walking, baking, attending all of her grandchildren’s sporting events, hosting family gatherings, and will be remembered for offering her oatmeal cake to show her appreciation for her community.

Surviving are her children; Marilyn (James) Luckey of Black Creek, Frances (Michael) Young, Mary Ellen (William) James, Joyce (William) Amundson, Lewis (Cheryl) Holden, Jr., retired USAF, all of Cuba; 15 Grandchildren, 43 Great Grandchildren, and 17 Great Great Grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by an infant son Hugh Reuben Holden, a granddaughter Alicia Bradley, and her siblings and their spouses Harriet (William) Michalski, Raymond (Mary and Ruth) Moses, Eva (Francis) Stook, James (Anna) Moses, Walter (Gladys) Moses, Guy (Lois) Moses, Donald (Geraldine) Moses, and Ruby (Wayne) Allen.

The family will receive friends at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba on Friday, April 10, 2026 from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at the Cuba Methodist Church, 49 East Main Street, Cuba. Rev. Rebecca Worth, will officiate.

Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery, Cuba, New York.
