Rowena S. Annunziato

Rowena Annunziato of Greenfields Retirement Home, Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2012 having devoted her life to a career in education and to a passion for helping others.

She was born May 30, 1917, in Buffalo, NY to Raymond and Lois McKee Stillman.

Rowena was a graduate of East Aurora High School Class of 1936 and the State University of New York Colleges at Fredonia and Oswego. She was an elementary teacher in Cuba, NY, Tuscon, AZ, and Williamsville, NY where she was also a reading specialist and team leader, until her retirement in 1975.

She was active in the Lancaster Women's Civic Club, Faith United Methodist Church of Lancaster, the Williamsville Teacher's Retirement Association, Alpha Beta Kappa Sorority, Twin Villages AARP, and Eastern Star Amherst #655. She was an officer on the Audubon's Community Board, as well as editor of its newsletter. At Greenfield's Rowena served on the Council, as well as on other various committees. She cherished her happy retirement years at Greenfields and the many special friendships there. At Greenfields she continued to pursue her lifelong interest in the writing of poetry, some of which was published.

Rowena is survived by a daughter, Sylvia (David) Bosworth, three grandchildren, Aaron (Jennifer) Bosworth, Melissa (Daryl) Cummins, and Amy (Merle) Hequembourg Emmons; four great grandchildren; a brother, I. Lee Stillman; three sisters-in-laws Nora Stillman, Patricia Stillman, and Lucy Annunziato; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son Donald E. Hequembourg; brothers Neil Stillman and Barton Stillman; and a sister-in-law Lois Buzzard Stillman.

A Memorial Service will be held at Greenfields Manor Chapel, 5953 Broadway, Lancaster, NY 14086 on Monday, July 30, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. The Rev. Tom LeBeau of the Faith United Methodist Church of Lancaster will officiate.

Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Friendship, NY.
