Marion E. McCollister
Marion E. McCollister, 84, formerly of 5174 Miller Hill Rd., Cuba, passed away, suddenly Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Thompson Memorial Hospital, Canandaigua, New York.

Born on July 24, 1926, in Willing, New York she was a daughter of Robert E. and Isabella Liza Hawks. On April 17, 1948, in Cuba New York she married Mead McCollister who predeceased her in 1991.

Mrs. McCollister had lived in East Rochester prior to moving to the Cuba and Ischua areas and making her home Miller Hill. While in Rochester she was employed as a clerk for Woolworths.

Marion was a member of the Cuba VFW Post 2721 Auxiliary and Cuba American Legion Post 655 Auxiliary. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Cuba and at one time was the church secretary. She also attended the Rawson Baptist Church. When she was able she liked attending the Cuba Senior Citizens functions and the McDonalds morning coffee club.

For many years she enjoyed volunteering at the Cuba Elementary School reading program, delivering meals on wheels, and teaching aerobics to senior citizens. She also enjoyed playing Euchre.

She is survived by her son, James (Rita) McCollister of Victor; three grandchildren, Kim Boltz, Krista Surowy, and Ryan McCollister; three great grandchildren, Nathan, Mason, and Jordan; a brother Bernard "Bernie" (Julie) Hawks of Cuba; a sister, Marlene Rogers of Alden; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by a sister Laura.

The family will receive friends at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba on Sunday, July 24, 2011 from Noon until 1:45 P.M. at which time funeral services will be held. The Rev. Carl Holmes, pastor of the Rawson Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery, Cuba, New York.

It was Marion's wish that memorials in her name be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
