Lloyd K. Higby Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather

Lloyd K. Higby, 85, of 7993 Sparta Springwater Townline Rd, Dansville, and a former longtime resident of Cuba, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at Elcor Health Services, Horseheads, after a brief illness.
Born on March 13, 1925, in West Clarksville, New York, he was a son of Arthur and Ethel Sutton Higby. On October 18, 1947, in Portville, New York, he married the former Lois L. Harter, his wife of 63 years, who survives.

Mr. Higby served his country during WWII faithfully in the United States Army from 8/6/1943 until 8/13/1946, in central Europe. For his service he received the American Campaign Medal, the EAME Campaign medal, good conduct medal, and WWII Victory Meda.
Mr. Higby was a technician for Kodak for many years retiring in 1986.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cuba, the Cuba-Friendship Masonic Lodge 306 F&AM, the Cuba American Legion Post 655, Cuba VFW 2721, and the Shawn M. Clemens Memorial Am Vets Post 1 of Cuba, as well the Dansville Fish and Game Club and the Poker Club from 1988 until present.
Lloyd enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Alan (Karen) Higby of Hunt; two daughters, Adele Lincourt of Dansville,
and Alane (Larry) Gessel of West Clarksville; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren; a brother, Arthur (Jean) Higby of Cuba;
and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother Vernon Higby and sisters Mae Warren and Virginia Rinehults.
Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church in Cuba, NY on Saturday, January 29, 2011 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at which time a memorial service will be held. The Rev. Larry A. Poelma will officiate.
Burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Portville, New York.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials in Lloyd's name be made to the First Baptist Church of Cuba, 17 South Street, Cuba, New York 14727.
Arrangements are under direction of the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba.
