Josephine S. Benham, 94, of 326 North Shore Road, Cuba passed away Thursday, August 06, 2009, in Cuba Memorial Hospital's Palliative Care Unit following a short illness.
Born on, March 27, 1915, in Hundred, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late John L. and Margarette Bland Matheny. On March 12, 1933 in Weston Mills, New York, she married Manville Benham who predeceased her.

Mrs. Benham had worked for AVX in Olean and for the Olean Tile Company as a tile setter before becoming a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Olean.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, dancing, playing cards, and wintering in Florida.
Her daughter in laws always felt that having her for a mother was a wonderful gift.
Surviving are three sons, D. David (Bea) Benham of Sebastian, Florida, Dean (Kathy) Benham of Cuba, and Darryl (Sandra) Benham of Sanborn, New York;
one daughter, Helen (Fred) Middaugh of Cuba; 18 Grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by a daughter and son in law Donna (Jim) Kane, a brother Chester Matheny, and two sisters Helen Pendelton and Nelda Swift.
At Mrs. Benham's request there will be no visitation. Private family services will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2009. The Rev. Leslie E. Chambers, pastor of the West Clarksville Baptist Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Town of Portville, New York.
