Joanne L. Guild
Loving Mother and Grandmother

Joanne L. Guild, 86, formerly of Cuba, New York, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at Field of Dreams Senior Living, in Allegany, after a lengthy illness.

Born on March 3, 1939, in Olean, she was a daughter of Charles and Ruth Rutledge Rose.  On July 26, 1956 she married Samuel H. Guild who passed away on August 31, 2014.

Joanne was a graduate of Cuba Central School Class of 1956.  She also earned a Teaching Assistant Certificate from The University of the State of New York in 1973.

She began her career at the former Cuba Central School as a Teaching Assistant in the Reading Center. She transitioned to the Technology Department where she was ultimately promoted to Technology Coordinator. She was instrumental in bringing the computer age to CCS. She retired after a 33-year career in the district.  She always remarked how technology was a wonderful gift to her life.

Joanne was a member of the First Presbyterian Church until its closing and then joined the Cuba First Baptist Church.

Joanne enjoyed reading, cheering on the Buffalo Bills, The Bonnies basketball team, and the Sabres. She was also known to follow NASCAR and even went to Watkins Glen for the NASCAR events with Sam for many years.

She is survived by her son Gerald (Kimberly) Guild of Allegany; her grandchildren Meghan (Christopher Haberle) Guild of Tempe, AZ, Paige (Nathan) Rutz  of Cleveland,  OH, and Alec (Stacey Walker) Missel of Santa Barbara, California; her great grandchildren Willow (3) and June (1) Rutz, Maya Missel (1), and Blaire Haberle (2 weeks); a brother Jim (Mai) Rose of Cuba; and several nieces and nephews. She had fond times with what she called her borrowed grandchildren, Meghan & Erin Bradley.

  In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter Sherie L. Guild on February 18, 2014, a brother William Rose and two sisters Jeanne Smith and June Gaeta.

Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street Cuba, on Saturday, July 12, 2025. A viewing from 1:00-3:00 with a Memorial Service at 3:00PM headed by Pastor Claudia Little.
