Joan Marie Langworthy Cook, 68, of Eldred, Pennsylvania, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at Buffalo General Hospital after an unexpected illness.
Born on July 21, 1957, in Wellsville, she was a daughter of Dale and Katherine (Wilkinson) Langworthy. On November 2, 1974, she married her husband of 51 years, Kirby Cook, who survives.
Joan was a graduate of Bolivar Central School Class of 1976.
She and Kirby owned Moms and Pops Place in Derrick City, Pennsylvania and then moved to Beckley, West Virginia where she worked as a Licensed Pharmacy Technician for several years before returning to New York and continuing her career as a Pharmacy Technician. Most recently Joan, Kirby, Andy and Tasha owned The Barn in Little Genesee, New York.
She loved spending time with her family and her little dogs Billy and Bobby. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she referred to as her grands.
Joan had a kind, giving, and adventurous spirit. She loved to travel the beaches or explore the mountains of Colorado where she and Kirby renewed their wedding vows on their 25th Wedding Anniversary. She was always up for a trip to Kentucky or to play the slots in Las Vegas (really any casino would do). She loved nothing more than firing up the heater in the meat house, hunting deer with the kids, or maybe just shopping for them.
In addition to her husband, Kirby, she is survived by a daughter Tasha (Andy) Howard and their children Drew (Shelby Claypool) Howard, Dustin (Lauren Morse) Howard; a son Dale Cook and his children Damian (Abby) Cook, Chase Cook and Kaylynn “Peach, Sis” Cook; great grands Charlotte “Princess” Howard, Waylon “Way Way” and Hadlee “Sweet Girl” Cook, her sisters Kathi Taylor, her twin Jane Haymach and her best friend and partner in all things mischievous Maze Langworthy Peters; her brothers Steve (Mary) Langworthy and Denny (Mindy) Langworthy; sister-in-law’s Peggy (Chic) Cook, Candy Rix, and Marie Cook; and several nieces nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her in laws Lawrence “Cy” and Donna Cook, brothers-in-law Steve Cook, Larry Cook, Chet Haymach, Ron Rix, and Pete Peters, a niece Angel Taylor Law, and a nephew Craig Roulo.
Joan did not wish to have a traditional funeral so as a family, we would like to Celebrate her life with you on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at the Richburg Firemen’s Club House from 2-5 P.M. Please dress casual in your pretty colors or favorite bills gear. Go Bills!
