James G. Stearns, Jr., 53, of 6385 Route 305 Black Creek, NY passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2011 in Cuba Memorial Hospital's Palliative Care Unit after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on March 29, 1958, in Cherry Point, NC, he was a son of James G. and Althea Shelley Stearns, Sr. On October 7, 1983, in Allegany, NY he married the former Julie L. Olin who survives.

Jim was a graduate of Friendship Central School Class of 1977. For many years he was employed by Giant Food Mart in Cuba as a meat manager, retiring in 2009 due to illness.
He was a member of the Shawn M. Clemens Memorial Am Vets Post 1 of Cuba, the Enchanted Mountain Beagle Club, and the Cuba Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed hunting fishing, working, and watching sports.
He lives behind his wife Julie of Black Creek; a daughter, Misty L. Stearns at home; his parents, James and Althea Stearns, Sr. of Canisteo;
a brother, Gilbert (Barbara) Stearns of Warsaw; three sisters, Sandra Markert of Alabama, Sheri (Bruno) Keller of Black River, NY, and
Wendy (Matthew) Dorley of Hornell, NY; and a lifetime of friends.
He was predeceased by his son Kyle J. Stearns on June 19, 2006.
Friends may call at the Cuba United Methodist Church, 51 East Main Street, Cuba, on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011 from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. at which time a celebration of Jim's life will be held. The Rev. Sonya "Sunny" Mauser, will officiate.
Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Friendship, NY.
