James A. Wetherby
Beloved Husband, Father, Friend
James A. Wetherby, 76, of 17 Champlain Ave., Cuba, passed away Wednesday, August 06, 2014 at Cuba Memorial Hospital's Palliative Care Program after a lengthy illness.

Born on September 12, 1937, in Ischua, he was a son of George and Josephine Babcock Wetherby. On March 7, 1959, in Little Genesee, New York he married his wife of 55 years the former Delores I. Davis who survives.

Jim was a graduate of Cuba Central School Class of 1959. He then went pumping gas for Ed Frost's Garage and Service Station. He also drove taxi for his parents business the Cuba Taxi Service. He then went to work for Dresser Rand in Olean retiring in 2000 after 43 yrs.

He was a member of the Cuba VFW Post 2721 First Division, co-founded the men's horseshoe league with Bob Seelbinder, the Thursday Men's gold league with his close friends Pete Ingalls, Max Ingalls, and Walt Doty. For several years he was also the Mayor of Cuba.

He enjoyed hunting, gardening, playing cards and spending time with family. He absolutely loved the New York Yankees.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Lynn Wetherby of Wellsville, and Amy (Tracy) Wood of Cuba; a sister, Laura Clayson of Machias; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two brothers, George Wetherby and Hazen Wetherby whom died in infancy; and two sisters, Marie Jordan and Jane Duvall Aman.

The family will receive friends at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba, on Friday August 8, 2014 from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. where funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. The Rev. John Asquith, pastor of Black Creek Baptist Church will officiate.

Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery, Cuba, New York.
