Harriett attended Cuba Central School and was a graduate of Penn Beauty School. She operated Harriett's Beauty Shop in Cuba for many years, retiring in 2005 due to ill health.
She was a former member of Our Lady of Angels Church, the Cuba American Legion Post 655 Auxiliary and the Shawn M. Clemens Memorial Am Vets Post 1 Auxiliary.
Harriett was an avid animal lover; she especially enjoyed dogs, and will be missed by her five dogs and one cat. For years she volunteered as a foster caregiver for Joyful Rescues and the Cattaraugus County SPCA.
She was also a thoughtful caretaker to family and friends in her life. She was especially wonderful to her parents as they aged.
Surviving are three brothers, Richard J. Congdon of Buffalo, Dean V. (Elaine) Congdon of Cuba, and Lawrence D. Congdon of Cuba;
one sister, Catherine (Joseph) Yusko of Magnolia, NJ; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by four brothers, infant twins, who died in 1923, Mark M. Congdon who died in Oct. 4, 1936, Clair E. Congdon who died May 1, 1954, and a sister Mary A. Crowley who died Nov. 13, 1997.
Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street Cuba, on Friday, July 30, 2010 from 6-8 P.M. and on Saturday, July 31, 2010 from 10 until 11 A.M. at which time a memorial service will be held. Fr. Jerome M. Dissek will officiate.
