Greg Herring, 59 of the Pines Healthcare Center, Olean passed away Monday, April 14, 2014 after a long battle with cancer. Despite life time physical challenges with spina bifida and more recently cancer, he maintained his humor and good attitude.

Born on July 29, 1954, in Cuba, NY the son of Robert L. and Laura I. (Earll) Herring. He was raised in Friendship and has resided in Olean for the past several years.

Greg was a 1973 graduate of Friendship Central School and attended Jamestown Community College (Olean Campus). While in Friendship he was involved in Town Team Baseball helping with statistics and managing. Greg also served as a Literacy volunteer for Friendship Central School. Greg's passions were reading (American History/Sports), coin collecting, listening to music, bird watching and following his teams. He was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills, Sabres and the Chicago Cubs. His family and friends were important to him and he enjoyed them.

He is survived by a sister, Mereda Shelley (Lindsey) of Randolph; a brother, Roderick Herring (Colette) of Henrietta; his nephews, Justin Shelley of Seattle WA, Erick Shelley of Cleveland OH, and Samantha Herring of Pittsford.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba on Friday May 23, 2014 from 10-11 A.M. at which time a memorial service will be held. The Rev. Dennis Durfee, Home Care and Hospice Chaplain, will officiate.

Burial will be in West Clarksville Cemetery, West Clarksville, New York.
