Born on May 25, 1956, in Buffalo, he was a son of Clarence and Marian Eck Mye. On September 9, 1978, in the United Church of Friendship, he married the former Diane M. Skinner who survives.

Gene was a graduate of Scio Central School.

He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, hunting, oil painting and spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He loved listening to country music. Hank Williams Sr., and Kitty Wells were his favorite artists.

Surviving in addition to his wife Diane are a son, Larry (Renee) Mye of Cuba; a daughter, Andrea (Thomas Humphrey, Jr.) Mye of Belfast; grandchildren, Tammy (Thomas) Dunn-Humphrey, Thomas Humphrey, Austin Humphrey, John Dunn-Grubb, and Lilly; 2 brothers, Ronald Mye and Clarence Mye; and a sister, Carletta.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Services will be held privately by the family.
