Ernestine E. Mabey Green, 90, of 7623 Phillips Rd., Friendship, formerly of 6117 Hyde Flats Rd. Black Creek, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, after a brief illness.
Born on January 3, 1920, in Cuba, New York she was a daughter of Paul and Cecil German Mabey. On July 16, 1949 in the Cuba United Methodist Church she married Bruce O. Green who predeceased her on May 1, 1997.

Mrs. Green served as the school nurse for the former Cuba Central School during the 1940's and after that worked one year at Acme Electric and one year in the nursery at Buffalo General Hospital. From the 1950's until the early 1960's, Ernestine returned to the area and was employed in the maternity ward of Cuba Memorial Hospital. She later was the director of nurses for the Allegany County Home in Angelica. At the time of her retirement she was a caseworker for the Allegany County Department of Social Services.
Ernestine was a member 66 year member of the Cuba United Methodist Church, Cuba Grange #799, Pamona Grange, the Allegany County Grange, Cuba Historical Society, The Allegany County Agricultural Society, and the Cornell Cooperative Extension where she served as a 4-H Leader, Master Food Preserver, and for many years as an association director and treasurer. She was also a life member of the WNY Draft Horse and Pony Club, American Halflinger Registry, NYS Registered Halflinger Association, a Life member of the Belgian Draft Horse Association, the Allegany County Registered Nurses Association where she has served as secretary for many years, the Cuba Central School retired teachers Association, and a lifetime member of the Buffalo General Hospital's School of Nursing Association.
She was always known for her cooking, bread making, and canning. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Surviving are one son, Wayne B. (Terry) Green of Black Creek; one daughter, Brenda (Gary) Green Vaughn of Sparta, Georgia;
two grandchildren, four great grandchildren, four step grandchildren, six step great grandchildren;
a sister, Lucile Lawton of Houghton; several nieces and nephews; and a special niece and nephew Edward and Edna Elling of Friendship whom she resided with for the last three 3 yrs.
In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by a brother Arthur Mabey and a sister Marjorie Elling.
Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street Cuba, on Sunday, July 18, 2010 from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. and on Monday July 20, 2010 from 10:00 A.M. until 11 at which time funeral services will be held. The Rev. Sonya "Sunny" Mauser, pastor of the Cuba United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in the Cuba Cemetery, Cuba, New York.
