Darlene K. "Dar" Preston

Darlene K. "Dar" Preston, 69, of 9005 Route 19, Caneadea passed away peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014 at Olean General Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer, with her daughters at her side.

Born June 14, 1945, in Cuba, she never let anyone forget Flag Day was her birthday. She was married to Douglas J. Preston Sr., who passed away Dec. 3, 1999.

She was a graduate of the Belfast Central School in 1963, and resided most of her life in Caneadea.

She was a mother and homemaker. She had also worked as a CNA at the Houghton Nursing Home, and assisted with the family business, D.J. Preston Inc. She was a member of the Belfast American Legion Auxiliary, Rushford Lake Boating Club and the Rushford Lake Conservation Club.

Dar's life was challenging in the earlier years, which added greatly to her character in later years. She liked to dance, play tambourine, travel, play golf and spend time on Rushford Lake. She never missed her happy hour "short one" right up until the very end. She loved her huge circle of fun friends and family.

Once you got to know Dar, you couldn't help but love her. She was kind, caring and cherished a good time. Her smile and laugh will be sadly missed by many.

Surviving are two daughters, Michelle (Robert) Weed of Rushford Lake and Melissa (Randy) Blackmon of Olean; a son, Douglas Preston Jr. of Caneadea; six grandchildren, Amanda Brown, Kasey and Meggen Knight, Ryan and Dylan Preston, and Taylor Blackmon; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ken and Gary Baldwin, both of Olean, and Michael Baldwin of Florida; a sister, Debbie Baldwin of Florida; and a stepfather, Kenneth Baldwin of Olean.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Irma Baldwin; two brothers, Jeffrey and Gregory Baldwin.

Family and friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, 9 Bull St., Cuba. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 23, 2014) at the Caneadea United Methodist Church. The Rev. Steven Devine will officiate, followed by committal services in the Caneadea Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Caneadea United Methodist Church or the Caneadea Cemetery Assoc. 7723 Route 243, Rushford, NY 14777.
