Mr. Armbruster attended Bennett High School in Buffalo. He also served in the United States Army until being honorably discharged.
Charles and his wife moved to Friendship, New York, in 1957 and purchased the Friendship Red and White and renamed it Armbruster's Red and White. He owned and operated that store for the next 21 years, retiring in 1978.
Community involvement was always important to Mr. Armbruster. He was a former member and past president of the Friendship Chamber of Commerce, a former member and past president of the Friendship School Board for over ten years, he helped organize and was a past president of the Friendship Little League, he was secretary for the Friendship Planning Board, and at one time was a member of the local boy scout committee. Along with other businessmen he helped to revitalize and improve areas of the town that needed beautifying.
He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, skiing, sailing, but most of all spending time with his family. He also enjoyed wintering in Florida with his wife.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Charles J. (Dawn) Armbruster of Fairport, NY, and Paul J. (Willa) Armbruster of
Brooklyn, NY; three grandchildren, Nichole (Chris) Dooling, Kelly Armbruster, and Jack Armbruster, and a great granddaughter Lucy Kay Dooling;
and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother Jack Armbruster, and two sisters Ruth Sharp and Lois Poggie.
At Mr. Armbruster's request there will be no public visitation or funeral services. Private family services will be held at the convenience of the family.
