Carol A. Scott Place, 81, of 212 ½ West Shore Rd., Cuba Lake, passed away Monday, March 2, 2026 at Olean General Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born on May 11, 1944, at the Cuba Memorial Hospital, she was a daughter of Gerald D. and Faith (McKinney) Scott. On July 9, 1966 at the Cuba First Baptist Church, she married Norman H. Place, who predeceased her on October 24, 2012.
Carol was a graduate of Cuba Central School Class of 1962, SUNY Oswego with a degree in Secondary Biology Education and St. Bonaventure in 1976 with her master’s degree in Elementary Education.
She worked for Cuba Central School (now Cuba-Rushford) teaching third, pre first, kindergarten, and second grade prior to retiring in 2006.
Carol was a member of the Cuba First Baptist Church since she was twelve, where singing in the choir was one of her greatest joys. She was also a season ticket holder for St. Bonaventure Basketball for many years. She loved dogs, scrap booking, and other paper crafts, but especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by a son Scott M. (Erin) Place of Rockport, Massachusetts; two granddaughters Cayla and Morgan Place; a sister Hope Benjamin; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law Mary Helen (Robert) Scott and a brother-in-law Rodney Benjamin.
Services will be held later this spring at a date and time to be announced.
