Alice M. Sweet
Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother
Alice M. Sweet, 94, of 33 Prospect Street, Cuba, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2021 shortly after arrival at Olean General Hospital.

Born on September 18, 1926, in Laona, New York she was a daughter of Benjamin and Irene Damon Sprague. On July 31, 1948, in Laona, she married Loren A. Sweet who predeceased her on February 2, 2004.

She was a graduate Dunkirk High School and later graduated from Fredonia Teachers College with a degree in Elementary Education.

Alice taught second grade at the former Rushford Central School for several years where she met her husband, she then became a dispatcher for the Town of Cuba Police Department and Ambulance Service, and Cuba Fire Department. She retired her call number KTL708 in 1991 after decades of service. She was also an honorary member of the Cuba Fire Department and a member of the Cuba United Methodist Church.

She loved watching birds, camping, traveling and it brought her great joy to send cards and notes to her family and friends. She was a proud mother and grandmother who enjoyed being with her family.

She leaves behind her children, Loren A. (Cate) Sweet of Rotonda, Florida, Lanny A. (Brenda) Sweet, Luke A. Sweet, Lisa A. (Dale) Stadler, Lori A. Sweet, Lee A. (Steve Yatzkanic) Sweet-James, Lloyd A. (Yvonne) Sweet, and Lon A. (Linda) Sweet all of Cuba; 23 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by a daughter Lynn A. Sweet on May 8, 2005, a grandson Paul Bean on December 19, 2013, two brothers Neil and George Sprague, and a sister Norma Dewolf.

The family will receive friends at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street Cuba on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 from 6-8 P.M. only. Private family services will be held on Wednesday with the Rev. Sonya “Sunny” Mauser, as officiant.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial be made to the Cuba Fire Department, P.O. Box 84, Cuba, NY 14727, The Cuba Police Department or Cuba Ambulance Squad, 15 Water Street, Cuba, NY 14727.
